Sheila McCarthy-Dodd MBACP is a counsellor, couples counsellor, supervisor and group facilitator based in Gloucestershire, UK.
Sheila emigrated from Ireland to London in 1987 and worked initially as a youth and community worker before retraining as a counsellor and therapist.
She qualified as a counsellor in 1992 and has completed a considerable amount of further training including Clinical Supervision, Couples work, Groupwork, Family Constellations and Training for trainers. For the past twenty-two years, she has worked in a variety of contexts including the Youth Service, Further and Higher Education, Occupational Health, Drug and Alcohol services, a variety of voluntary organisations and private practice.
She has trained and worked extensively since 1996 in Systemic and Family Constellations. She facilitates family constellation workshops in Ireland and the UK.She is particularly interested in integrating insights from Peter Levine’s work on trauma, recent research in neurobiology, neuroscience and mindfulness practice with Systemic Constellations work. Her study of mindfulness practice has been through attending regular retreats since 1992 taught by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
Currently, Sheila is developing her approach to family constellations work and mindfulness in collaboration with Clare Crombie, a therapist and constellation facilitator based in Edinburgh (see Carina Scotland).
